会议背景介绍： The Silk Road is the most famous East-West trading route in ancient times.

It served not only as the conduit for goods but also as the highway for knowledge transmission between the east and the west. Nowadays, the need for timely, high-quality, long-term, global spatial information is increasing rapidly. It is essential to build and operate a new silk road that can transfer an unprecedented amount of information from imagery to everyone in the emerging people-centered, comprehensive and development-oriented Information Society.

To build and operate such a new silk road presents a big challenge for the ISPRS community. Further technological and non-technological progress is needed to realize the full potential of information from imagery, especially in areas such as integrated global observation, automatic interpretation of imagery, incremental updating of geo-spatial databases, value-added geo-information services, and etc.

By combining 'Silk Road' with 'Information from Imagery', we intend to emphasize sharing and international cooperation in photogrammetry, remote sensing and geo-information. China, as the start of the ancient Silk Road, played a significant role in the history. We expect to make new contributions to the Silk Road for Information from Imagery. The XXI ISPRS Congress to be held in Beijing will provide an opportunity to develop new forms
